A Journey of Peace, Hope, and Transformation

When I first set foot in Kenya, I didn’t know what to expect. I had always heard stories of the country’s beauty, its vibrant culture, and the warm hearts of its people, but I was about to experience something much deeper—something I could never have prepared for. My purpose was clear: I was there to serve special needs children. But what I didn’t realize was how much this experience would shape my own heart and soul.

From the moment I met the children, I felt an overwhelming sense of belonging. Their smiles, their laughter, their struggles—they were all so real, so raw. Despite their challenges, they radiated a joy that was contagious. In their eyes, I saw a reflection of God's love and grace, and in their courage, I found strength. The children had unique needs, but they also had unique gifts—gifts that opened my eyes to a deeper understanding of what it means to truly serve.

I spent every day working with the children, helping with feeding them, assisting with therapy, and sometimes just being present when they needed a comforting hand. There were moments of struggle—times when the language barrier seemed too vast or when the work felt endless—but in those moments, I learned to lean on Jesus. I saw how He was with me every step of the way, in the quiet moments and in the loud ones, in the victories and in the challenges.

One of the most humbling aspects of my journey was witnessing the faith of the parents and caregivers. Many of them had very little, yet they poured all of their love and energy into caring for their children. It reminded me of the true meaning of sacrifice and the deep bond of family. Their unwavering faith in God, despite their circumstances, was a constant source of inspiration.

Through it all, I found peace. A peace that came from knowing that I wasn’t just doing a job—I was living out a calling. Each day, I grew closer to Jesus. Through the children’s resilience, I learned what it meant to persevere. Through their unconditional love, I learned how to love more deeply. And through their dependence on others, I realized how much I need God in my own life.

This trip didn’t just change the children—it changed me.

Prayer Requests:

For the Children: Please pray for continued healing and growth for the children I had the privilege of working with. Many of them still face significant challenges, but I believe in their potential. Pray for their strength, health, and happiness.

For the Parents and Caregivers: The families often face tough circumstances, balancing caregiving with financial hardships. Pray that they are given the resources and support they need, and that their faith continues to be a source of strength.

For the Volunteers and Staff: Pray for the strength, patience, and wisdom of those who are working daily to make a difference. Serving these children can be incredibly rewarding but also physically and emotionally taxing.

For My Personal Growth: Pray that I continue to carry the lessons and peace I found in Kenya with me, that I remain humble and focused on serving others wherever I am.
Valuable Insights for Those in the Field:

Adaptability is Key: The ability to be flexible in a new environment is vital. What works in one setting may not work in another, so it’s important to approach each situation with patience and an open mind.
Relationships Matter More Than Tasks: When working with children with special needs, it’s easy to get caught up in the tasks at hand. But at the heart of it all, building strong, trusting relationships is what truly makes a difference.

Self-care is Essential: Serving others can be exhausting, emotionally and physically. Don’t forget to take time for yourself—your well-being matters, too.

This experience in Kenya was more than just a mission trip; it was a life-changing journey. I went there to serve, but I left with more than I could have ever imagined. Peace, hope, and a deeper connection to my faith are gifts I will carry with me forever.
